Vattenfall is seeking an Environment and Sustainability (EnSu) Specialist to support Offshore Wind and Solar & Battery (SoBa) projects in the Dutch market, across development, construction, and operations phases. The role sits within Business Area Wind, reporting to the EnSu Manager – Projects & O&M, and provides environmental and sustainability advice and operational support to assets and project teams.
The specialist ensures projects and sites comply with legal, permit, and Vattenfall environmental requirements, contributing to operational excellence through structured, systematic environmental management. The role involves close collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and EnSu peers in the Netherlands and other core markets.
Key Responsibilities
Environmental compliance
• Review and approve contractor environmental documentation
• Monitor and audit contractor performance against environmental and sustainability standards
• Support project teams with environmental management during planning, execution, and reporting
• Support consenting teams and provide site compliance input
• Manage, report, and investigate environmental incidents and events
• Engage with and report to authorities where required
Performance & continuous improvement
• Support development and execution of environmental drills
• Deliver toolbox talks and lead contractor meetings on key environmental topics
• Provide environmental input to contracting and due diligence processes
• Develop and improve systematic ways of working on environmental topics
• Contribute to BA Wind’s Environmental & Sustainability Strategy
Teamwork & coordination
• Work closely with site teams and specialists in Consenting, Quality, and H&S
• Collaborate with internal experts in Bioscience, Sustainable Design, and Procurement
Profile & Qualifications
• Degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or similar
• Relevant experience in renewable energy projects (construction and/or operations)
• Knowledge of wind, solar, and battery technologies preferred
• Familiarity with environmental management systems
• Strong understanding of Dutch environmental legislation, permitting, and consenting
• Fluent Dutch (spoken and written); professional-level English
• Strong organisational, analytical, and communication skills
• Willingness to travel; full EU driving licence
Practical Details
• Location: Netherlands (Amsterdam preferred; flexible working possible)
• Contract: Fixed-term, 4/4,5 days per week, until 31 December 2026 (extension possible)
• Regular travel to Dutch project sites (Ijmuiden) and occasional travel within Europe
