Overall, an Operational Technology (OT) Senior Solution Architect plays a critical role in designing and implementing technology solutions that support operational processes in industrial and manufacturing settings. The candidate is responsible for creating architectures that are scalable, secure, and reliable, and for providing guidance and technical expertise to stakeholders throughout the organization.
OT Senior Solution Architect is responsible for delivering solution designs to projects. These solutions need to be fit for purpose within the portfolio, have technical integrity, the right TCO (total cost of ownership) through its life cycle and a good fit with the IT technology direction of Shell. The resultant High-Level Design have a measurable impact on the effectiveness and profitability of Shell.
OT Senior Solution Architect is responsible for designing and implementing technology solutions that support operational processes in industrial and manufacturing settings. They work closely with stakeholders to understand the requirements for automation, control systems, and data management, and develop architectures that align with business goals and strategies.

Responsibilities include:
    Provide solution architecture development, consultancy and assurance to projects, making sure applications are well designed and conform to Shell standards and reference/segment architectures. The Solution Architect is accountable to the Project Manager for the architecture of a solution being developed and implemented until the successful deployment of the solution. This includes:
o    Being the point of call for all architecture aspects of an IT Project.
o    Being able to address and integrate the: Business Process, Data, Application, Technical and Information Security aspects of an IT Solution.
o    Ensure projects solution architecture is documented using the templates, System Architect tooling and conforms to standards.
o    Coach detailed designers and business analysts in projects during their design work.
o    Reviewing and accepting the detailed design of an IT solution.
o    Support Segment Architects and reviews through the Architecture Review Board as required.
    Take an active role in documenting, improving & maintaining the Reference Models in Systems Architect. Lifting project deliverables to the Conceptual and Logical levels.
    Follow IT Technology developments in the market and leverage this knowledge in architecting solutions in Shell. Ensure solutions are ‘future-proof’
    Stay in touch with development of standards and standard services in IT at Shell. To ensure the latest service developments are taken into account.
    Pro-actively contribute to the development of the Architecture community and be an ambassador for Architecture. Interact with stakeholders on architecture issues and strategic improvements where such expertise is required.
    Assessing current OT systems and processes to identify areas for improvement and optimization.
    Collaborating with business leaders, engineering teams, and other stakeholders to define technology requirements and develop solutions that support operational processes.
    Developing technology architectures that integrate hardware, software, and communication systems, ensuring scalability, security, and reliability.
    Creating detailed technical specifications, diagrams, and documentation for implementation and ongoing support.
    Evaluating and selecting hardware and software products that meet operational requirements and align with the overall technology strategy.
    Identifying and mitigating risks associated with OT systems, including cybersecurity threats, safety hazards, and system failures.
    Providing technical guidance and mentoring to engineering teams and other stakeholders on best practices for OT design and implementation.
    Staying up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends and incorporating new ideas into the technology strategy.

The qualifications and skills required for an OT Senior Solution Architect include:
1.    Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
2.    10-15 years of experience in designing and implementing OT solutions in industrial or manufacturing environments.
3.    Strong understanding of industrial control systems, SCADA systems, and other OT technologies.
4.    Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and solve complex technical issues.
5.    Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders at all levels.
6.    Experience in project management, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
7.    Familiarity with cybersecurity best practices and standards, including NIST, IEC 62443, and ISA/IEC 62443.
8.    Experience with cloud-based OT solutions and IIoT technologies is a plus.
