Senior Data Science Software Engineer (Python and AWS)
Your Employer
Alliander, a leading energy company, faces the immense challenge of the energy transition. With the rise of decentralized generation, increased electricity consumption, and the integration of heat grids and new gases, we must approach our processes and services differently.
The Team
The Power Flow Analysis Team (PFAT) is responsible for developing capabilities and products to explore, validate, and present plausible measured and estimated grid state data of the electrical distribution grid. As a team we aim to reveal (un)used capacity in the electrical grid, assets under risks and the potential to maximize grid use.
To achieve this data scientists and developers work closely together within the team where sharing knowledge and practical advises are crucial. Furthermore, we intensively co-operate with other teams of System Operations department, and the Alliander organisation to bring the products into practice and have impact.
About the role
We are looking for a skilled Senior Data Science Software Engineer to join our growing team. To excel as a Software Engineer, you bring enthusiasm, expertise and a good vibe for team spirit. You are the technical lead for developing products that enable the team exploring, validating and dashboarding measured+predicted data for plausible power flows and state estimations of the electrical grid.
Your passion of software and cloud engineering reflects in your knowledge of Python and AWS, enabling you to build and maintain reliable development environments to bring the PFA-team to the next level. As a key part of the development team, you'll work on mainly the Tactical Risk Assessment product, making sure efficient handling of big amounts of data in Snowflake and visualizing relevant metrics, statistics and graphs which our stakeholders will use for decision making. Further we need you to oversee and solve complex analytical problems of existing products. You are able to think critically, open for new ideas and eager to learn about the challenges of the energy transition.
Requirements
Must have background and skills:
- 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer.
- Strong Python skills with OOP principles (SOLID, modular code).
- Write clean, documented, tested, and review-ready code (docstrings, comments).
- Ability to build scalable data-handling systems for time series workloads.
- Experience in database architecture, schema design, and query optimization (SQL proficiency required).
- Understanding of data modelling for analytics.
- Experience with Data warehousing tools (i.e. snowflake).
- Proficiency in package management.
- Adhere to best practices for storing and handling sensitive data.
- Practical experience using product-level design patterns (e.g., factory, observer, strategy).
- Experience with BI dashboarding (i.e. PowerBI).
