Do you want to contribute to the energy transition in the Netherlands? Then this position is for you! Alliander is rapidly digitizing to meet the growing demand for electricity and to make the energy grid future-proof. That is why we are looking for medior Java developer for the PCM (Power Capacity Manager) team - one of the 20 scrum teams- within System Operations department. PCM team optimizes the use of our available grid capacity while ensuring stability and continuity, through controlling energy flow in our grid by combining risk considerations with an optimal strategies  and using this information to direct available flex solutions  into an efficient use of our grid . PCM team is creating the module that automatically selects the best solution for not overloading the network with the least impact for us and our stakeholders. Currently this module is being redesigned and rebuild because of new requirements.
The location of System Operations is Arnhem and the working language is English. Alliander works hybrid; that we work together at least once a week at the office in Arnhem. This concerns a position for 32, 36 or 40 hours. You make the grid more innovative at Alliander!

System Operations
The network operators have a major challenge regarding the amount of energy that their network must process. This cannot be achieved by simply putting more cables in the ground. System Operations is building a system that allows us to see the space on the network, so that we can connect customers under certain conditions. System Operations ensures that the right amount of energy is in the right place at the right time. It controls the energy flows over the network, with the aim of using the network as optimally as possible and ensuring stability and continuity of energy.
The electricity grid is increasingly heavily loaded, making it no longer self-evident that a customer can be connected. Your profile
We are looking for a medior Java/Kotlin developer with the following profile:
Must haves:
- Higher educational (HBO) work and thinking level
- Extensive programming experience with Java and/or Kotlin (minimum 3 years)
- Microservices – RESTful API's and event driven
- NOSQL – JSON document stores (MongoDB/DocumentDB)
- Knowledge of Spring Boot framework
- Experience with unit-, integration- and component-testing
- Ability to work in an agile environment with great stakeholder management and scaling mindset where the challenges could be solved with a dynamic attitude, collective team work and collaboration with other teams and architects. Eager to overcome the unique challenges of the digitalization of the electrical grid.

Nice to haves:
- Knowledge of the Energy branche;
- Knowledge of Kafka and event driven systems
- Infrastructure => Kubernetes, CI/CD GitHub Actions, ArgoCD
- Comfortable with Linux, including bash scripting
- Experience with event sourcing

Furthermore, we are looking for someone who also wants to work in operational implementation => Ops support for every few of weeks (20% of time) during office hours.

We would like to see the Agile and DevOps mindset, specifically thinking along about the best solution for the problems. So an active attitude when it comes to devising concepts and solutions.
